A message from the Tourism & Transport Forum

It is with incredible sadness that the Board and management of TTF acknowledge the passing of TTF’s longstanding and wonderful Chairman, the Hon. Bruce Baird AM.

In everything, Bruce was a gentleman, a warm and gracious man with a commitment to great causes. Whether in the cut and thrust of the political arena or in the corporate world or as our Chairman, he was admired and respected.

Bruce came on board the first time as TTF Chairman in 2008 and championed the sector with us until 2014. He returned to us in 2020 and led the organisation through the toughest of times, during COVID and the recovery period. He has left a legacy of calm, kindness and practical solutions.

We will be forever grateful to Bruce for everything he gave to TTF, our members and the industries he cared so deeply about.

Bruce was a legend in the world of Australian politics, having first been elected to the NSW State seat of Northcott in 1984. He served as a Shadow Minister and then as a Minister for the tourism, roads, environment and transport portfolios in the Greiner Government. One of his proudest achievements was the vital role he played in bringing the 2000 Olympics to Sydney as the Minister responsible for the bid in 1990. He went on to be elected to the Federal seat of Cook in 1998.

But his impact extended far beyond his professional and political achievements. Bruce, above all, was a champion of people. He was always generous with his time and took real pleasure in helping others.

Bruce’s legacy will live on in Australian public life for many years to come. It will also live on through the many careers he helped build, the people he encouraged and supported, and the opportunities he created for others to succeed.

Our thoughts are with Bruce’s family, friends and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time. TTF extends its deepest condolences to everyone who knew and loved Bruce.

He will be dearly missed. Vale Bruce Baird.
