Region 7 bus contract a win for commuters

The franchising of the bus contract for Region 7, once finalised, will offer better services for commuters, be more environmentally friendly and provide real time information to help bus customers better plan their journeys the Tourism and Transport Forum (TTF) said today.

The NSW Government opened the tender process this week for the region, which service centres Chatswood, Sydney Olympic Park, Macquarie Park, Epping and Ryde, with services extending west to Parramatta and into the Sydney CBD.

TTF CEO Margy Osmond said it was very pleasing to see the tender process was focused on the customer experience with transport operators bidding for the contract asked to demonstrate how they will deliver enhanced services to customers on behalf of the Government.

“We have seen previously how the franchising model has delivered for the commuter and we expect Region 7 to be no exception.

“The provision of real-time information sought by the tender will improve the capacity for customers to plan their journeys and help them better connect with rail and ferry services.

“The environment is also pleasingly top of mind with operators participating in the tender called on to show how they help the Government transition to zero emission buses.

“All in all it’s a win win situation and TTF fully supports the bus franchising model and the benefits it offers for consumers and the community,” Ms Osmond said.
