The South Australian Government’s increased investment in the tourism and public transport sectors will bolster the State’s visitor economy and secure tourism as a key economic and jobs driver for South Australia.

“Today’s 2018-19 South Australian Budget provides an additional $21.5 million to attract more high-yield international visitors to South Australia; with a focus on securing major events and conventions to further drive visitation expenditure and economic development for the State,” said Tourism & Transport Forum Chief Executive Margy Osmond.

“TTF has been calling on the Government to provide funding certainty for the South Australian Tourism Commission (SATC) since its inception. While today’s $10 million marketing funding commitment in 2019-20 is welcomed, TTF would like to have seen no effective cuts to funding.

“It is crucial that the SATC has the long-term resources it needs to be competitive with other Australian States when it comes to destination marketing.

“It is pleasing to see that cultural tourism has not been overlooked, with $472 million allocated to the redevelopment of Lot Fourteen, which includes over $60 million to support, construct and deliver a National Aboriginal Art and Cultures Gallery in the heart of Adelaide.”

Ms Osmond also said the 2018-19 Budget highlights the Government’s investment in critical road and transport infrastructure.

“The $1 billion investment in public transport recognises the premium commuters place on travelling to cities and regions with efficient accessible public transport networks,” said Ms Osmond.

“In recent years there has been a significant change in the way we travel from one place to another and TTF welcomes the Government’s focus on mobility shifting. The extension of park ‘n’ rides along the O-Bahn interchange will improve public transport patronage and get more Adelaidians out of their cars and onto public transport.

“The construction of the tram right hand turn onto North Terrace is a game changer for Adelaide and will maximise connections and commuter access between key hubs in the Adelaide CBD.”
